Disco Sucks! Vinyl Only Night at Calypso

Phil Anthony heads north to Edmonds on Thursday September 17th for Disco Sucks!, the monthly vinyl only night Mixed Up Mike runs at Calypso under his Groove Refuge banner. Phil joins Mike and Supreme La Rock behind the decks.

Everything comes straight off wax. Disco house, classic disco, funk and soul, played across four hours by three selectors who take their crates seriously.

Supreme La Rock is a Seattle institution. He hosts Sunday Soul on KEXP, recorded as one half of the Sharpshooters in the nineties, and DJ'd for the Seahawks through their championship season. His digging also turned into preservation work: the research behind Light in the Attic's Wheedle's Groove series, which brought Seattle's overlooked Black soul and funk musicians back into view, started in his crates. Expect soul, funk, boogie and rare groove moved with the kind of ease that only comes from decades of listening.

Born and raised in Seattle, Phil was baptized into the church of dance music by the techno, breaks and drum and bass of the early nineties rave scene. His mother funded his first pair of 1200s in 1997 and he has been playing out ever since.

A globally experienced house DJ with sets at Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher and Bar M in Ibiza. He is one half of production duo Sawtooth & Sine, signed to Global Dance Records, and runs a YouTube channel with more than 17,000 subscribers.
